Shifting: clutch to floor?

I found that since the clutch engages so far back, its like you dont have to put the clutch to the floor for every shift. I put the clutch down about 2/3 down, and then lift out. Doing this makes the shifts faster and smoother. Is this bad for my clutch?

It may or may not be depending on your engagment point. Estimating where 2/3's of the way is is going to get you into trouble over time. Instead, make a clutch pedal limiting spacer to limit pedal travel to a defined amount that is past the disengagement point. There is a DIY which will basically allow you to do what you are doing but in a more reproduceable manner. https://g35driver.com/forums/engine-drivetrain-forced-induction-diy/168519-diy-clutch-pedal-remedy.html

^^^ huh???

I have no clue what you guys said and that other thread I don't get what it exactly does.

I too don't push the clutch all the way to the floor but about half way (or 2/3's i don't know) where I can throw my shifts smoothly and when I let up on the clutch, it engages. I'm pretty sure I found the engagement point.

I just do what comes natural. After driving manual for so long, it's 2nd-nature. So yes, normal driving, the clutch hardly ever goes all the way to the floor. Mostly only when I'm engaging 1st and reverse....

why involve the guessing game when it's a simple DIY

...and cheapest

The DIY shows you how to add a spacer, so it reaches a stop point at ~2/3's of the normal clutch travel. Then there is no guessing involved. If you look at the clutch pedal assembly for 30 seconds you would understand how this works

i noticed on my 04 that although full engagement occurs at about 1/2
clutch-out, the clutch progressively engages from about 1/4 off the
floor. it just requires more pedal movement vs some other cars.

i clutch-in to the floor or very close to it. otherwise the gear box
wants to grind some times.
