How to fill the 6MT back up?
How to fill the 6MT back up?
I have a long hose with a funnel, but it was about 1 ft short to make it to the fill hole from the front. Anyone have ideas on how to refill the tranny back up once drained? Luckly I didn't drain it yet!

Yeah, lucky you didn't. What you need to get is a gear oil pump from your local auto store. I got mine at Kragens. It was a valvoline one for 3.99.
Here's a link for online purchase through Kragens.

I learned the hard way and drained after the stores closed. So I ended up using a spray bottle which obviously moves a lot less volume per pump than a real one gear oil pump. Needless to say it took me forever to move 3 1/4 qts. D'oh!

I haven't done this yet or looked into what is involved. Either one of you care to write up a little DIY?

Re: How to fill the 6MT back up?
It's pretty easy to do. Not too much involved. I'll do a quick write up here. I have to do the diff later this weekend so maybe I'll take pics and do a complete writeup later for the tranny and diff. Here's one for the tranny for now. Do this only after allowing sufficient time for the car to cool down. Getting scalded by hot tranny fluid or by the exhaust pipes is no fun.
1. Put car up on jackstands or ramps on all four corners.
2. Using a 10mm hex drive bit, remove the filler plug located on the passengers side of the transmission case.
3. Using the 10mm hex drive bit, remove the drain plug and let oil drain.
4. Clean the filler and drain plug for any metallic particles.
5. After all oil is drained replace the drain plug and torque down to 25 lbs/ft.
6. Using a gear oil pump, pump 3.25 qts of appropriate tranny fluid through the filler hole or until the level of the fluid is just right below the bottom of the filler hole.
7. Replace the filler plug and torque down to 25 lbs/ft.

Re: How to fill the 6MT back up?
differential is easier.
1)put something to drain it into under the diff, pull out the top and bottom plug with a 10 mm hex wrench. it takes a while as it is thick gear oil. try to get the the diff warmed up first.
2) I found a lot of sludge in mine, no metallic pieces just sludge (maybe 2 teaspoons). So I put the drain plug (bottom one) back in, added about 8 oz of new gear oil then drained that out to clean the diff out some. Put the drain plug back on.
3) Instead of a gear oil pump (which works great, I have one), I used about 6 ft of 3/8 thickwall plastic tubing attached to the top of the nipple on the 1 qt gear oil bottles. I stuck the free end in the diff and stood on the bottle. Only took me about 5-10 minutes to fill it back up this way.
4) took exactly 3 pints (like the esm says) until a little came trickling out the fill hole.
FYI, I used 75W-90 GL5 Mobil One Syn gear oil. 5.00/qt Also the ESM says to replace the plug gaskets but mine were in good shape and no leaks since.

It should be every 30,000 miles. I'd recommend changing to a synthetic fluid like Redline. Some people have used Royal Purple.
