6mt Transmission Problem
Hello,
I have been having some issues with my manual transmission lately. When I start up in the morning, the transmission has problems going into second gear. I have to put some force in order for it to go into gear. The problem only exists in second gear and when I start the car in the morning (40 F - 60F outside temp). When the car warms up, the shift becomes better, but I hear a clunk noise when only going into second gear. The other gears are fine.
The car has 46,000 miles, and I changed the oil at 36,000 miles with Royal Purple synthetic gear oil 75w90. The problem started to occur at around 33,000 miles.
I am the second owner. I was wondering if the warranty passes over to the next owner (from what I know it does). Also, how should I approach the dealer to get this fixed under warranty? The problem only exists when the car is started up in the morning. If I drive the vehicle to the dealer, the problem will diminish. Will I have any warranty issues since I changed the oil myself? I have never taken a car into the dealer under warranty and would like your suggestions so I don't get turned down. Thank you for your time. I hope to hear from you soon.

Your warranty should still be transferable to you if you're within the specified milage and years. It sounds like one of your synchros might be going bad. I would change the gear oil back to OEM and don't tell them that you ever changed it to RP, because if you do, they may say this voids your warranty. BTW, our tranny kinda sucks!

I have experienced the same exact problem with getting into second on my 05 when cold. I even had a tech check the clutch and tranny and everything was ok. (costed my $50 even though I am in warranty--I assume b/c I have an aftermarket clutch but dunno fer sure).
If there is no grinding, it is not a syncro issue. Occasional clunks/weird sounds are normal for our trannys, excessive grinding is not.
Our trannys are very notchy. IMO, it is likely due to viscosity problems with the tranny fluid. Maybe try switching back to oem fluid and see if the problem remains.
