05 6MT - Trans / Clutch Issues

I just picked up a 05 6MT coupe a month ago. It had a clutch replacement at the dealer maybe 400 miles before i bought the car. Here's the issue -

When I'm starting out in the morning, its super tough to get the it to shift into first or second unless i'm not moving. Any causes, ideas? I took it to the dealer and they said that if shifted normally and handed me a line of BS. Recently, its not engaging as smoothly as it should either.

The Clutch - the pedal had gotten significantly softer over the month. its usually after riding on the highway for 40-60min. i doubt there's anything the dealership's gonna do under warranty. could it be the slave cylinder, of am i just boiling the fluid? will a stainless flex line help, or should i just switch out the fluid?

thanks for your help

I think you are feeling the oil when it's cold. I have had mine for 60k now and when it gets real cold (rare thing is South Texas) it's hard to shift. Just as soon as the oil in the tranny gets up to temp, it goes away.

Clutch? I think your leg is just getting used to it.

i hope youre right - there's a noticable difference in the clutch engagement before and after a long ride. maybe an extra 2-3 inches of travel.

are there any adjustments that i could make to bring the engagement point higher? i've seen that a lot of guys turn the adjustor nut under the dash in a couple of turns, but wouldn't that make the clutch engage closer to the floor?

So it engages low (close to the floor)? If it changes AT ALL during your driving, you need to check it out. It may need bleeding and/or have a leak.

Hahah. Well how cold is it when its doing this?
If its around 35-40 degrees its hard to get the gears engaged..

Should be normal on most manual cars...

Been having a killer winter here in colorado

i got the car in early november, and as i'm in pa its consistently been 40-50 degs. its true, though, on cold days its a lot worse.

would a different trans fluid of addative help? just throwin it out there

and has anyone gone for the stainless flex line for the hydraulic clutch that could tell me if its worth the $70 bucks or not?

thanks

i had redline synthetic oil put into my tranny a couple winters ago. i was hoping it would fix my winter blah driving on cold starts... but it really didn't. it still a pita to shift into 1st on those really cold days. sometimes i gotta double clutch a couple times to slip it in at a stop. but this goes away within the first few minutes. i would save your money. i honestly don't see too much difference b/n the synthetic and the oem stuff.

6MT Coupe
Normal for this gearbox when cold.

I switched to Amsoil 75w-90 API GL-4. Not as bad when cold and issues go away sooner. I noticed somewhat smoother shifts when cold and definitely when warm.

I inquired with dealer parts manager on oem...dino/synth? Bottle doesn't say, but they wanted $17 bones per quart...
I'll stay with my Amsoil thank you very much.

The 20 - 30° F cold temps should not have a noticeable effect on the manual Transmission IMO. I have had my my G for 3 winters now, and I am only experiencing the hard shift into 2nd this year (2004 6MT w/ 32000 MI).

I also have a pair of noises that come from the transmission when the car is still cold. One is the wind noise, the other is a more harsh scraping sound. There is no noise when the ambient temp is >50°. Below 30°, and it it really noticeable for a good 8- 10 minutes of driving. I am dropping the car off tonight for a test drive tomorrow...

This is exactly what my car sounds like. I'm at service too. I hope that they don't give me a line of BS

what was the diagnosis from the shop? which dealership was it? a lot of us are still getting the line of BS that this is 'normal'... did the sound go away once you got the new tranny?
