Rough shifter? help!

This is my first manual, so bear with me if this is supposed to be an obvious issue/fix...

Past few months, my shifter has been pretty rough going into each gear. It's like there's a lot of friction going from neutral to each gear, especially 1st and 2nd.. others are a BIT smoother, but still rough..

I drove a friend's G that just had a new clutch and flywheel put in, and it was hella smooth.

I did put in a short shifter (rogue eng.) when I got the car, and there were small rough points, but not that noticeable.

I would put my old shifter back on, but the ssk caused the arm under the car (that the bolt goes through) to tighten and now I have to find some way to expand that brace so the original will fit in.. it squeezed it like 2mm too much

I dont hear any grinding or anything while driving or shifting.. even if i were to keep the car off and shift between gears, it feels rough/rugged...

new clutch/flywheel? just a ssk problem? something else?

My car is a lot harder to get in gear with the short shifter on it. As long as you are not grinding I think it's normal.
