Exclamation Clutch is stuck to the floor!

I was just out driving, and the clutch went all the way to the floor and didn't come back up! I shifted at high RPM when it happened. When I pulled over, I checked the clutch fluid level, and it was normal. I then tried pulling the clutch back out by hand, and it pops back up...but there is no tension. If I press it again, it just sticks to the floor.

I was able to drive it home in 1st gear (shut off car, put in 1st, then start, and the car just takes off). During the ride home, the car acted as it would usually in 1st gear. There was no RPM slippage, etc. so I don't think the clutch is worn.

I think that it might be the clutch master cylinder or clutch sleeve. I did have the clutch master cylinder replaced under warrenty about a year ago though. Any thoughts???

it sounds like it would either be the master or slave cylinder that is taking a little vacation. take it to the dealership and let them have a looksie

thanks guys... BTW, I have 68k miles w/ the original clutch/flywheel, etc. If for any reason I have to drop the trans for this prob. I will replace the flywheel, clutch, throw out bearing, pressure plate, etc etc...everything possible. I plan on keeping the car for another 3-4 years or so, maybe longer, and I want to get the job done right.

I was thinking of doing JWT clutch and stock flywheel. I've heard that there is too much chatter w/ aftermarket flywheels. Is Nismo any better? Any other suggestions?

Its a common problem with the G. A lot of people get this problem when they try to take off from a dead stop at high revs. 4.5k+..

yup.

I had this problem a number of times and it's quite scary. I just drained (siphoned) the cluth fluid and replaced it and I haven't had that problem in months.

Someone here had this very exact problem not too long ago, maybe about a month or two ago. Then again, the person did had fluid leaking out somewhere. I'll see if i can find that thread...

deezflip,

You were right w/ your link. Thank you for your help. My mechanic just called me to say the fork pin, or pivot pin (as described in the link) broke off. This is an $8 part that will now require the trans to be dropped to replace.

I have an extended warranty, but is this something that is usually covered? I know that the actual clutch disc is not. Now I have to find my original sale papers, and hopefully that document is in there.

so, was it covered? Unless you still had bumper to bumper warranty, then I doubt it....My shift fork pivot bolt broke and burned my clutch and I just replaced, $12 bolt=$1300 clutch job...
