5AT gets stuck in manual mode

I swear in the past when this first happened I did a search on here and found the answer. But doing some research again, I can't find anything this time.

My g/f has a '03 G35C 5AT. A couple months back I changed the brake pads on the car and went out for a drive. I put it in manual mode drove around for a bit and went to put it back in drive.

The shifter went back into drive, but the display on the gauges still said 5, not D. I thought WTF? Got back home, put it in Park, then the display said nothing. Turned the car off, fiddled with it and finally got it to go back into drive, and the display said D.

Told the girl to not move it over and just leave it in drive for the time being. Well today by accident she moved hit the shifter and it got stuck again. While at work she fiddled with it and it finally went back into Drive. The display did the same exact thing as last time.

Curious as to what you guys think the issue is. It sounds like maybe the tranny's selector solenoid is going out? Anyone confirm the issue? If it is the solenoid how much does the part cost, and how much to install roughly?

What?? She never uses the manual mode. And the 2 times I have used it I don't bang the gear shifter, what would be the point in that?

Anybody else have a logical suggestion?

I'm bumping this thread because this happened to me last night!

I have an 04' 5AT coupe and I moved the transmission into manual mode and it got stuck! The dash displayed "N" so I was able to push the car away from traffic and get it towed. My story is a bit similar to yours, in that I changed my pads and rotors earlier in the day...

Hoping I can fix it myself before I tow it to the dealer, so let me know if you found the solution to this problem.

Just picked up my car from the dealership today. I walked out paying only 35 bucks- the AT was binding and needed lubrication. Ended up being a small fix.

Nice! I love it when things work out like that. I'm sure you are relieved that it was a quick/cheap fix.
