P1716 code. Tranny
I got this P1716 on my OBDII reader but no check engine light. I search here only got me to the TSB below. But I don't notice any harsh or erratic shifts.
Anyone else run into this code? The manual says this code is a Turbine revolution sensor. It monitors the input shaft speed (RPM). The manual describes how to check but you need a consult II to do it. (Dealer only)
I went ahead and cleared it and will check again if it comes up. If it comes up, I'll have to take a chance and replace that sensor (If I can even get to it) or bring it to to the dealer and bend over.
be replaced.

Not that this really answers my question in anyway but from my experience, most don't even go to the trouble to actually do all the diagnostic tests to determine if the part related to the code is actually bad or if something else is actually causing that code.
For dealers, it's faster and more profitable just to replace parts and hope it fixes it. If not, the customer comes back and they try another, then another, then another until the problem goes away.

Anyway, here is the diagnostic TSB that I was referring to. Similar but not exact as this TSB seems to require the other code P1710 to accompany it. Which I didn't have

Interesting thing is the TCM p/n. 31036-AL000. I could swear that was also similar to the reflash revision from the dealer

FYI. The latest software part number for your ECM/TCM is 23710-AM604. It made a vast improvement over the previous upgrade (31036-AL004 program) I had done in early 2004. This program improves the A/Ts response in early model Sedans that are equipped with the in-cabin mounted TCM. It doesn't change the way the transmission works. Manual mode is still a top gear limiter and must be manually downshifted. Also there's no rev matching.

Don't assume that the average dealer technican is an expert on complicated new electronics or software.
Dealers are lucky to have 1 competent certified by Infiniti Master Technican and he may be 2-3 years obsolete in training updates.
Start talking software or electronic internals and they run away because the are not electronic engineers.

more so I think Jeff is correct... they take the easy guess then inconvenience you till they have to truly diagnose. At least that has been my experience... not just with the tps... but you are right, once I get a tech I trust and am confident in, I request him every time - the best one I had isn’t there anymore...
