Manual Transmission Lube - What weight/brand?

All:

Want to change the lube in the 6 spd gearbox. Anyone have any recommendations? Anyone use or recommend Redline MTL or similar, or does everyone just go with the standard stuff?

Thanks,

-- Mike

check the manual, but i believe its a GL-4 type with weight of 75-90 OR 80-90. use nissan tanny fluid OR approved alternate. many here use Pennzoil, Amsoil, Motul.

i suggest searching and searching well on this topic...you'll find that the 6mt is really picky on certain transmission fluid. Some complaints on Redline and Royal Purple, usually on weather related depending on where you live.

I went with Amsoil and pretty happy with it. I live where i get cold winters and hot summers.

I say amsoil for the cold winter/hot summer climates. Not for all you fun and sun guys it doesn't get cold enough for you to notice but amsoil is def better in the extreme cold than rp!

^ What he said.

2.9L or 3-1/8 US qt.

You want Nissan Manual Transmission Fluid (MTF) HQ Multi 75W-85

or

GL-4 75W-85 or 75W-90

Would it be possible to use Castrol HYPOY C Gear Oil 80W-90 that exceeds API GL-5 for transmission and differential? Not sure, but I need to find out before I change the fluid out this weekend.
