From Auto to Manual....?

It may be allright around town to switch back and forth but I wouldn't do it
at high speeds, why would you? Around town use the manual shift but on
the highway/freeway leave it in Automatic you're actually better off.

I have not driven in "D" for more than 100 yds since I bought my car in Dec 02. There is absolutely no reason you can't shift into MM at any time. It is handy to be in MM on the freeway so you can gear down to pass when the opportunity arises. It's fun - play with it.

So you don't have a clutch pedal to break off your foot in traffic. It's why I have an auto. D.C. traffic is horrible.

As others have said, you can switch from D to MM freely at any (use that term loosely, LOL) time. Push up to upshift, pull back to downshift. Easy as 1-2-5?

Oh yeh, when in MM - you're car will explode if you upshift before 6k.

Does your right foot break off from pressing the brake/gas also?

I usually drive in D on the freeway but often times when I need to pass or just accelerate quicker, I'll switch into MM which drops me to 4th gear.

No, because he uses the cruise control. Or is your 6MT missing that feature too - ha ha.

Or you can just step on the gas pedal harder and it will automatically switch into a lower gear for you...

takes longer... going into mm while in 5th will get you into 4th faster.

it lags either way. for me, stepping on the pedal harder works just fine. i've done both, but this method seems to work just as well if not better.
