Leak on the rear Differential advice plz

So.. I ran over a huge rock today and when i got home to check out the guts of the car i noticed this.

This is what it used to look like.

The fluid is on parts of my exhaust piping near the Dif but it doesn't drip to the floor.

My friend doesn't think this was caused by running over the rock that it could have been there from before; however the fluid seems fresh not like dry or like its been caked on for days.

I'm going to clean it up and see if it happens again after normal driving.

So my questions are how serious is this issue, and what may have caused it?

Maybe something simple like the plug not tight and you were parked on a hill and some oil dripped out??

In the garage overnight no drippage, but if something cracked or sprayed at once that would explain the fluid on the exhaust pipes.

I did notice a faint burning smell sitting at lights today, starting to think i cracked a seal.

Only thing you can do is hike it up or get someone with a lift and take a look see. Cracked seal sounds logical.

From the pics, the spot where it seems to be coming from is pretty high up on the pumpkin.

Did you do a rear gear oil change lately? It seems like its overflowing rather than leaking......Is it possible its leaking out of the fill opening?

Does anyone know what that circled part is...and if that is connected somehow to the differential? From his pictures and what I've seen on my car...it looks as if the fluid is coming from right behind there.

I think that is part of the VDC - it uses that to control the YAW of the car.

On the diff cover, there is a stud that bolts to the crossmember as circled in red. At the top of the diff cover, there is a vent. Could be possible that some of the diff oil came out the vent and down the cover.

That part that you have circled is the park leaking. It is a differential mount. You can order solid ones if you want, but you will notice a lot more vibration. I had mine bust not to long ago and i still haven't fixed it. Really doesn't hurt anything. It is just a liquid filled differential mount.

Thanks for the info. I don't even know when mine busted. I was under there doing something to my exhaust when I noticed it.

Maybe its time for me to get one of those finned ones and a new LSD =).
