Today I was getting some warranty work done on my 2005 6MT (49K miles)and told the service desk my clutch would stick sometimes after driving for a while in traffic and that getting in 1st and reverse was hard when the engine was cold. There is no sign of slip or excess clutch wear. Still bites quite hard under load.
Diagonosis: They said my clutch had overheated, causing flywheel damage and the release bearing was damaged. They also said that if I did not replace everything it could cause transmission damage, which would not be covered under warranty.
Estimate: $3K

I've been working at a transmission specialization shop for 2 years now as an R&R mechanic, from my experience i can tell you that even if they charge around 100 dollars an hour for labor, to remove the trans, put in a new clutch, flywheel, and throwout bearing and then just restab the trans... is pretty expensive. they don't even have to take the trans of the transmission jack. could probably round trip that thing in 4 hours. dunno exact time required havn't pulled a g35 trans yet
Generally that should be covered by warranty, but they told you (assuming the ones u talked to are the warranters) that it needs to be replaced so, they should cover it. what type of warranty do you have? apparently on everything but the trans, flywheel, clutchkit?
What most likely caused your flywheel, clutch, and throwout bearing ot overheat was if you just rested your foot on the clutch petal when cruising and not using the clutch, even if you press on the clutch just with the weight of your foot, it pushes the Throwout bearing onto the flanges of the clutch pressure plate, known as "riding on the bearing" which is no good, so if you where doing that, that was the cause.
i'm not really a diagnosis guy, but imo you shouldn't drive a clutch till it goes out haha. so if the part is damage you should replace it, just make sure they are baiting you into buying a flywheel if you don't need it.
did they say anything about the pilot bearing?
did they give you a parts/labor break down of the price?
