matic j automatic transmission fluid has been around for awhile now. nissan has updated the formulation and now call it matic S. in your car manual you'll see references to only using matic j in your automatic transmission, now you'll use the new matic s atf instead.

link to "official" announcement?... I'm pretty sure they would send out a letter (they've sent me letters for less important things than this)...

No offence, but until I have official word, I'm using what the manual, the dip stick, and the yellow sticker on the core support (or wherever it was that I saw it) says - all of them state that using anything other will void warranty. So they would need to send official documentation that people could reference if warranty issues arise.

you can go to infintihelp.com to see the actual release. its under ownership -> service bulletins -> "your vehicle". Infiniti bulletin document # is ITB08-022.

To be clear, this states that matic s is for 2004 and later vehicles calling for matic j. naturally it also states, you can continue to use matic j if you can't find matic s.
