from a 40 roll in 2nd gear or a 60-65 roll in 3rd gear. It seems as i got about1-2 car lengths slower....

To the OP: like OCG35 said, the 4.08 gears are OEM. The 3.92's are not. Also, there is going to be more cost than just the cost of the gears and labor. Each diff job will have to be shimmed and new seals, etc.

One thing to think about: your mileage will suffer. The 4.08's are 13.5% shorter than stock. 6th gear is only 20.6% taller than 5th, or roughly 21% overdriven. So can think about it this way: with the 4.08 gears, it will almost be like losing 6th gear.

However, gears are a great compliment to a centrifugal supercharger. Check out a post over in the my350z site, in the forced induction section, by a user named sentry65. It's a sticky I believe. There's some stuff in there about vortechs and gears.

I don’t know?... doesn’t make sense to me... I can tell for certain I didn’t lose anything from a roll... everything down low is faster.

Depends on the powerband of the car, the gear, and the rpm.

It could be that previously, he would kick it from say 6k rpms(right near peak hp). But at the same speed, with the new gears, the same speed would likely put him in a higher gear.

The shorter FD doesn't make up for the ratio going to the next gear.

^^^ Trey, I explained that a few posts up... however, based on his post since that does not seem to be the issue.

i usually like to take off on rolls at my peak tq about 4200-4500, but it seems that with these new gears in when i shift to the next gear it drops me in a bad place of my powerband, or maybe the auto trans just takes too long to shift so it doesnt let me take advantage of my shorter gearing. One thing i noticed for sure is that i went from trapping 103.6 to trapping about 100 with these new gears but my 1/4 mile ET was still in the same place. Id rather be running the same time with a higher trap.... i need to figure this problem out. Maybe the 3.53 are just the wrong gears for the auto.

Trapping 103.6 in a 5AT is very strong.

You gotta be kidding me. Even if your auto can shift faster its still robbing your engine of alot of HP.

Autotragic's suck. I hardly even consider any Z or G auto a performance car.

First off I have a Z fully bolted and not a G. And you coupe guys must be crazy to think you got something to talk **** with. Ive raced on several occasions the most tricked out NA coupes and simply left them in the dust from any speed or digg. Not to mention AUTO's!! You think that you can just floor it and go and its perfect shifting but its not about that, A good 6mt driver will had you your ***. You might have the advantage over a bad 6mt driver but a Manual car is generally faster, if not by ablity to shift faster but by his transmission not robbing all his power.

You crazy, I really doubt you can beat my Z. I dont care what you have done to your car. A fully bolted G Vs a fully bolted Z is not to great of a comparison. We have the weight advantage.
