FD for 5AT 12-03
Hi, I just bought a 04 g35 coupe with 5AT. It'll be another 2 months when it arrives to Moscow, Russia. While the car is still in US, I'm picking up some mods.
I've read this forum for the past 5 days, and found alot of usefull information about different upgrades I can do. Thanks a lot guys for this forum, and for sharing!!!
Now it came to the FD gear, and it is a little bit confusing for me. I've read alot about changing it on 6MT, but not much info about 5AT. I've read that it might not even be a good idea to do this on a 5AT.
From what I've read 3.7 gear would be the best choice for a 5AT, but again I am in doubt of changing it. I don't go to a drag strip really often (maybe 4-5 times a year, just for fun) so what I really need is street acceleration. I am not afraid to loose in top speed either, as there is a lot of traffic here in Moscow, so running anything above 120-130 would be dangerous even on a freeway.
So the question is, should I really consider a 3.7 gear, and if so, what would be a good place to order it? I don't need international shipping, as all the mods will be stuck into the trunk, and shipped with the car to Moscow.
Thanks in advance guys. I really hope to join your community!

I have a 3.7 but I changed it when I added the Quaife Diff. Very nice when you do both at the same time and probably a little easier than just changing the FD. The 5 AT has an open diff which means that if you do get good power to the wheels and it cuts loose, you will only be spinning one wheel. That's not so great if you plan on going to the track. The Quaife ensures the distribution of power to both wheels - all the time.

The part number is in the link (that’s Performance Nissan in Duarte, CA)… you can also search for 3.692 on various Nissan parts websites – when I got mine I did a bunch of research and found that gear set to be used on certain year Frontiers and several other Nissan trucks (I don’t remember all the years and models) – it is also now being used in the AT 07+ G sedans (G37 AT I think too) – sorry, but I didn’t keep all the sites that I found the parts – once I finished my research I got the gears and moved on to the next…
As for bearings, its not necessarily a requirement but not a bad idea either. I chose to forgo that added expense as my car had roughly 30K miles and bearing weren’t needed for me. You might find that it isn’t necessary for you either, however if you chose to replace them, they can be purchased form the same two sources I linked above.
