VDC 2 sensitive??

I was rounding a corner on the freeway onramp accelerating at around 60. The G-force WAS NOT that bad. I've done this in my 300ZX all the time and the SLIP message lights up and starts braking my car. Whenever VDC kicks in, it freaks me out because I don't have control over the car. Anyone else have opinions about VDC??

At that speed on an onramp, it was probably kicking in because you were starting to fishtail.

I don't think it's too sensitive for regular street use. It is too sensitive for autocross/track driving, and needs to be disabled.

Nah...the onramp had about a 15 Degree angle. I've driven rear wheel cars for about 12 years now. I know the G can take that turn. I thought it was just weird to have VDC kick in. All in all, its just a scary feeling.

Re: VDC 2 sensitive??

The sedan VDC may act dfferently. Every post I've seen from people that say to never turn it off are sedan people.

On a 6MT it kicks in way too harshly and ends up getting you more out of control than if you left it off.

I agree though, if you find you can't control the car with it off, for goodness sakes LEAVE IT ON!!!!

You still have control of the car, just not the ability to accelerate!!!!

You don't have control if you think your car is about to do something, and it does something else that you don't expect.

If a semi is about to hit me, I need the ability to accelerate.

Hehe.... ok, same senario, you are driving 60 around a slight curve and there is a semi coming right up behind you. The car senses that one of your wheels is rotating at a rate that is inconsistant with the other three (because it has lost traction, and is most likely a rear wheel). The car doesn't car though that there is a slight loss of traction because you have VDC turned off. You see the semi comeing right at you. You gun it. One wheel catches and the one that didn't have a good grip spins wildly out of control. Luckily you miss the semi, but you end up over the guardrail and down an 80ft embankment.

O'doil ruiles!

OK, don't take that too seriously, I just made it all up!
I drive my 04 coupe all the time with VDC on. It only pisses me off when I get on it and try to chirp the tires going into second gear. I don't think I've ever had it come on besides that....

If you really don't like VDC there are several mods to 'bypass' it.

Re: VDC 2 sensitive??

Mine seems to be ok, I've only had it come one once so far, as I was hammering it out of a sidestreet from a stop. other then that it has never come on. I think it is fine for your typical driver which they must design the cars for. In contrast my IS300 trac control came on almost daily, now that was way to sensitive.

Re: VDC 2 sensitive??

I had mine kick-in on an on-ramp. I wasn't going very fast, and I've taken on and off ramps at higher speeds than this one instance. My only guess is that there was some oil or loose gravel on the road causing one of the tires to slip. I didn't feel a loss in power, just felt the brakes engaging. Just happened that one time even though I've taken the same ramp many times. Maybe something similar happened to you in that one instance.

Personally, I think VCD does more good than harm in daily driving situations.

"The car senses that one of your wheels is rotating at a rate that is inconsistant with the other three "

One of the great things about this car is the feedback it provides to the driver. If a wheel is slipping, I will notice it and compensate and know that I am in control. Not sure what the VDC will do. Jam on the brakes and cut power. Right when I'm trying to do a perfect four wheel drift to swing the back end out and miss the 80 foot cliff...... the car makes me go straight.... right off the cliff. Thanks a lot car.

WWAF150OD?? That is, close to 50% of all transportation in this country is a RWD truck with no VDC. What would a F150 owner do? No weight on the back. If they floor it, they crash too. Hell, in my old Honda, or any FWD car, you floor it and you head straight into the barrier. Nothing will save you from being stupid there.

Why is drifting/rallying getting so popular? It's fun.

Just don't practice near my daughters bus stop. Please.

PS: I'll be first in line for the second batch. I want a combo deal.

Re: VDC 2 sensitive??

the VDC on mine is a little weird. I've taken small curves going pretty damn slow and it has kicked in. It annoys me sometimes, but as this is the first RWD car I've driven I tend to keep it on so when I stop paying attenetion I don't kill myself.

If your looking for some fun though, definatly turn the VDC off to take corners. Makes a HUGE difference turning, let those tires squeel!

I can definetly say the sedan rotates so easily it is not even funny though fun. The coupe doesn't since it has more rubber plus the staggered wheels induce more understeer.
