Do I need a new flywheel?

I fried my clutch from a days worth of stupid driving so I know thats toast, gears just keep slipping while accelerating. I know that if I just change the clutch with a worn out flywheel that I'll prematurely wear out the clutch but I have no way of looking at the flywheel until I take it to the mechanic. By which time I already expect to have the part ready to install. I drove about 10 miles to get home while it kept slipping so Im wondering if the damage can be that bad. The car also has 46k miles
I'm hurting for money so Im trying to do this as cheaply as possible without screwing myself over in the future, thats the whole dilemma. If you guys know if the clutch is somewhat easy to install with basic tools and knowledge then I could save a lot of money and just just buy a new flywheel also. But I'm expecting to be butt raped by the dealer to get it installed probably around 300 to 400 dollars so thats why it would be cool to either install the part myself or save 250 dollars with the flywheel

Actually the dealer wants a 1000 in labor and only if I buy the part from them bringing the grand total to 2500. I still think a auto shop would do it for 300 400 dollars tho, but any insight would be awesome

1,000 in labor sounds like vicious rape to me. Granted I do not have a G yet, but I have gone through clutches in other cars. Last clutch, a few months ago, I paid about 1300, that was with a few other quick things too...

Some one more knowledgeable will chime in...hopefully.... Good luck

The flywheel cannot be resurface; I'd recommend you get one as preventative maintenance.

It's just as much labor to replace a flywheel as it is to replace the clutch. You might as well kill 2 birds with 1 stone.

I agree with Mike. I ordered the JWT clutch/fly combo ... 775 w/ 3 day shipping for everything is a hell of a deal and A LOT cheaper than OEM. I was quoted 1000 for just the OEM clutch. I had it installed at a reputable transmission shop. Got charged 5 hours labor at 85/hr. So 425 to install, but that was a friend price. I know the manager of the shop. You should be able to get it installed for much less than 1k though. Not to mention that in the future, with the JWT flywheel you can replace the friction surface with a kit that costs like 60-70, which is a lot cheaper than a new flywheel.

I agree with you numbers for labor. Most places will charge around 3.5-5 hrs labor @ $100/hr. for teh install. Trust me dealership doesnot have teh best guys installing them. find a transmission place, they could do it the best.

They also have the exedy oe clutch for 20 dollars cheaper. im wondering which one is better cause ive never really heard of f1 racing clutches before
Then I found this on installing it:

I have a friend who's pretty mechanically inclined and has a cool garage. Does all his work on his 240 so im going to ask him if he could help me out. Otherwise im just going to take it to aamco or something

If you have a lift and tranmission jack it couldn't be that hard. Just dont drop the transmission on yourself.
