Clutch gone?!?!
Clutch gone?!?!
hey
im hearing a grind when i shift to 5th. This only happens at 4k rpm+ and only
when im accelerating. i tried redlining on 1st 2nd 3rd and 4th and nothing
happens.. smooth shifts but on 5th it grinds no matter how well i shift. This is
my 3rd manual car and i've had one of those for about 90k+ miles so id like to
think that i can drive a stick properly. Does it mean i need to change my
clutch/flywheel? i hope not.. pretty broke atm.

Seems like u have a bad syncro on 5th gear..pretty common issue with these cars.... if your under 70k it should be covered under warranty and odds are u will get a new clutch to go with the updated transmission u will get...
The syncro's for 5th go, and then 6th is soon to follow. Your service department will take it for a test drive to try and reproduce the occurrence. Or, they will just take your word for it. Make sure you don't get a rebuilt transmission and ask for the model number of the new one being put it. Just double check to make sure it's the latest version. My transmission was replaced a year and a half ago and is already starting to act like the old one where it locks me out of gears. Then, the syncros go.
This problem is how I found this website. Just about the same mileage as yours when mine originally went. I also know why my engine eats >1 quart of oil per 1000 miles now too thanks to this site. You'd think for $40,000 that they would give you an engine and a transmission that doesn't fail (multiple times at that).
