Transmission Removal Question

For those that have removed the tranny before...
Did you leave the driveshaft in to avoid tran oil spilling out or just drain and refill? I will be getting a new transmission so I don't want to refill if I don't have to.

Thanks
B

The drive shaft haves to be removed, to drop the tranny. The tranny will not be able to move forward if the the shaft is in. However I remove the tranny on a lift. (Thinking about it now I guess could just could be unbolted from the diff and placed on the ground, if you are on jack stands.)

i'll be on a lift too, but I was thinking about just unbolting from the diff and sliding the prop shaft back a little (use a jack to hold the shaft) and then remove the tranny (with the shaft still attached). I guess I'll play it by ear as this is my first time removing the g tranny.
