04 G35 6MT (5th gear grind, stiff clutch)

Hey guys, I was the owner a 03 350z 6MTs when they first came out and have been a member of my350z.com since 03 as well. Hoping to join this community soon but I have some questions.

Im looking at a used 2004 g35 coupe 6MT with 40k miles and went for a test drive today. A couple things worried me.

First, the clutch was VERY stiff. Now, Ive owned a 350Z 6MT and it was no where near as stiff up to 30k miles when I sold it. Do they get that way over time and is there a way to fix it?

Second, while the engine was still relatively cold...there was a whistling noise like air was seeping in. When it got warmer, the noise went away. I've read about ppl here with this problem but is there a fix or can it be ignored?

Lastly, it grinded into 5th gear. Just to make sure I shifted from 4th to 5th eight more times and it didnt go away. Is this covered under the basic or drivetrain warranty?

The car is no longer covered under the basic but still has time left on the powertrain so im wondering if I did buy this car, it can get fixed at a dealer at no charge.

Sorry about all the questions, I did a search but didnt get all the answers I needed. Thanks in advance!

if the vehicle is still in warranty, then it will be covered. that's the synchros, an internal defect. you would get a new tranny & clutch disc under warranty.

Which warranty? The basic is expired but the drivetrain is still valid.

umm, the tranny is one component of the drivetrain, so it is covered under that warranty. if you have questions regarding warranty coverage refer to your owners manuals. they clearly outine what is and isn't covered under each warranty. in total the G has 5 or 6 warranties for various systems, each with varying term lengths.

Yea the synchros a f*cked.... The powertrain warranty is good up 70,000 miles....I've had my MT changed under warranty twice now....You should look into getting the internals cryo treated....esp if you plan on doing any serious performance upgrades....

I had the same issues with my 04 6MT..

The stiff pedal is the clutch pressure plate going bad. I replaced the clutch and the pedal went back to normal. I also had the 5th gear grind and Infiniti replaced the tranny. I was still under bumper to bumper when it was replaced though.

Bump

I have the same problem with 5th gear grind, except it's not all the time, actually not that common at all, only occasionally. I'm definitely far from under warranty does anyone know an estimate to get it fixed? Would it be that bad if I didn't? It grinds VERY minimally VERY few and far between.

I have the same exact grind into 5th. I changed out the fluid to new oem nissan fluid and no change.

I know the true fix is the CD009 Trans, but are there any better fluid to help out? Redline, AmSoil..etc? Eventually will pick up the newer transmission but not for a couple months.
