dofu - I'm not sure what you mean. The meshing together feeling, only happens in 2nd gear. Other gears might be notchy, and a few might grind, but that feeling of 'meshing together' happens only in 2nd.

Do you ever hear your throw out bearing knocking around like crazy?

Yeah, driving it for more than an hour or so makes it do that. I can hear it while i'm idling, sounds just like knocking and pinging except it's coming from the transmission area.

Edit: I've tried searching for some good dealerships. The closest one to me is Peninsula Infiniti. Anyone have any experience with them?

Like others have said... SYNCHROS. I had my tranny replaced under warranty almost 2 years ago for faulty synchros. It would grind going into 5th under 45 mph but was fine over it.

I would definitiely go to another dealership... sounds like it's BS you're getting from the tech at Frontier. I would not tolerate it.

redlude97 - I'm not going to rule out that my driving habits may cause this. A few friends have told me that I should drive harder so the engine smooths out, ie; taking it to redline every once in a while. ( I have no idea what they're talking about ). If you're talking about whether or not I can drive a manual car properly, that can't be possible. I baby this car day in and day out, making sure I NEVER slip the clutch, rev-match every downshift, smooth 1st gear engagements. 2nd gear is so annoying ridiculous that I sometimes double clutch 1st to 2nd.

Agent F - I personally like the feedback in the shifter. It's that I can literally feel the transmission trying to engage 2nd gear, almost like it's meshing together. I get this feeling first, and then the grind.

I've learned a few things in this thread:
-Ask about worn synchro's.
-Possibly take it to an independent mechanic.
-Definitely try other dealerships ( hopefully I won't get shot down like at Frontier )
-This forum is pretty touchy about their own cars. I don't blame you, I love this car too. Just not the transmission.

A few more ?'s:
-Anyone think that a leaking master/slave clutch cylinder might be the cause? I've been reading a few threads on my350z about this.
-Could a worn clutch be the issue?
-What happens if I get denied warranty work? Do I contact corporate?
Nogeeme---

Agree that a few comments on this forum are touchy about their cars. My recent post about skip shifts to survive the daily "grind": https://g35driver.com/forums/g-spot/...iving-6mt.html

Granted I'm pretty new to this forum but I'm not a novice at driving a MT. I'm also a huge Nissan fan like a lot of people on here and don't think people should be offended about negative comments about these cars. Obviously they have their place and are pretty much unbeatable performance values!

Anyway, I have some of the same complaints as you about the shifting in my 07 G. It seems to be the smoothest when really running it up through the gears, it is meant for that. Other times the clutch takes up at different points, sometimes making a 2-3 shift slip a bunch and in the same moment a a 1-2 shift very herky jerky. All kinds of weird feelings with this car. I've found to use 2 seperate driving styles as appropriate, either drive light and skip shifts or drive more aggressively with faster shifts to reduce the roughness and oddball feelings in the clutch/shifter interface. Although, I'm not experiencing nearly the messed up synchro problems that you are having. I agree it sounds like your tranny is messed up. However the flywheel stuff sounds normal. My flywheel makes all kinds of whoops and wonks. If you're still under the warranty I would agree with all the other comments here and just have another shop look at the tranny. I've had good luck with the Oxnard dealer, btw.

Let us know how it goes and if you get anywhere. PS- My payments are well over 500 on my G and not getting rid of it anytime soon either. Would be too much upside down for at least a couple years! Instead I plan to do a few more mods on it to make it more driveable. I do really enjoy the car just marred at times by these inconsistencies!

OP, just get a Honda S2k tranny, swap it out, and you're good. You'll have a Infinionda G35k

Hahaha This thread is getting pretty out of hand.

Jabrother - I definitely didn't mean to offend you or anybody else, after all I own this car too. The engagements on this car are difficult, but that's not really my main problem. I've tried your method and it works! Seems useful when starting and going down a hill, since the rev's climb too fast in 1st. My trick is to just sit farther back so it's easier for me to feather the clutch. I'm pretty sure my problem needs to be fixed, i've tried re-adapting my driving, but it really doesn't help much.

When this problem get's fixed, i'll update this thread.

Actually I was agreeing with you that this can be a slightly sensitive group of people on here! Glad my "trick" worked for you. Yes, I only use it in slow, level pavement or downhill. I don't slip the clutch more than 2 seconds at the most! Good luck with your situation...

+1 for skip shifting. I've been doing this when the car won't let me into 2nd and such. I actually called the stealership last week, and since I'm only under powertrain warranty now (I assumed that it covered engine and drivetrain) they told me i need to pay at least $150 to diagnose my notchiness and that whatever needs to be fixed won't be covered which I think is F*CKED up! Any comments on this, or am I wrong about wanting them to cover this?

I completely agree with you on this one. The G35 transmissions do blow a big fatty.

Ever sense i got my car 1st --> 2nd is hard and does grind, 4th --> 5th grinds as well.

Like you i took my car into the infiniti dealer to have them say that everything is fine. However, i don't know if you have this problem but 1st gear makes so much god damn noise its retarded. The infiniti dealer said that it was normal LOL!

So, i just deal with it and make the best of the problem because unlike you the G35 is one of my favorite cars and i could never compare it to a Honda (not talking **** about Honda, love their cars).

Now, i don't know if anyone else thinks it but in my opinion ALL INFINITI dealers suck. You have no idea how bad they can **** up a car. If need be i can list all of the things that my local infiniti dealer has done to my car. And unlike you Cali people i live in Tucson Arizona where their is only 1 infiniti dealer to choose from.

I know i didn't give you much help as to how to fix it, but i felt like telling you that you aren't the only one.

If it helps any, I got treated very well at Infiniti of Pleasanton. It's a bit of a drive from the South Bay, but if they're gonna take care of you, it's totally worth it! Plus, you get a loaner car, too.

Will they look at the same problem if i'm only under powertrain warranty, or is this my stupid misconception that the tranny should be covered??
