Darn....after you find out what a clutch costs!

Long before you drove your G to school you should have rented a POS with a
MT and got some practice in. For a whole day of practice it might have cost
you $45 max, now what do you think it will cost you to replace the clutch in
your G? Merc, it very important that when you're using a MT/Clutch that
after you shift and let the clutch out remove your foot from the clutch pedal
immediately....never....ever rest you foot on the pedal when not shifting! I've
always had MT cars and have never replaced a clutch...ever! (that's been a
long time)....

Your thread title is misleading...

Anyway, good luck--you don't want too many "burned clutch smell" incidents or your thread title will come true...

Very misleading title. Cant comment on G's Mt since I got AT but I know how to drive MT pretty well. You def should have asked a family member who drives MT to teach you on their car before getting the G. 1 being that sports cars clutches are often pretty difficult to learn on being how strong they are. 2 being how expensive they are to replace. Atleast your getting the hang of it now tho. Now take off that "G35" because it looks terrible on their. You should have taken off the "G35" first. But as long as you take it off soon you should be good.

Driving the car hard, you'll get the burning smell...when you give it lots of gas and get the RPM's up there then clutch-in, shift, and clutch-out still while RPM is high, there is a lot of friction in the clutch material which causes that burning you smell through your vents, and around the car after you're done driving...

...happened to me when I drove the car hard, smelled the next day too, but after then, it's been fine, no difference in clutch friction zone (hook up) and no smell.

Yeah that tends to happen when you run the car hard. When I first started driving stick I used to smell that after I burned tires or ran it hard and used to always begin to worry and think I F'ed something up. It'll soon begin to grow on you......

Not to jack your thread but going in reverse is the same as going in 1st gear right? If so, it just seems so much easier to stall when going in reverse...I tend to have this smell every time I reverse park.

Yikes! Sounds like something's amiss..reverse is a pretty "quick" gear on the G--if you give it a little gas to ~1300-1500 RPM and let out the clutch like first gear, you are rolling...and usually pretty fast..I tend to depress the clutch all the way to the floor as soon as I've picked up enough speed to back out/in to a space, but I've never smelled that burn in R. How many miles you got on that thing?

I have about 39000 miles. I do feather the clutch when I reverse, like for example, I'll gas a little with the clutch let up a bit, the g starts moving backwards, I'll depress the clutch all the way, then I'll repeat this process starting with the gas again until I'm backed up to the point I want. I'm thinking I should let up the clutch more, but I haven't had the courage to do so, the thought of stalling is...just bleh. You are right about the rolling pretty fast part, how would you reverse out slowly without burning or riding? Maybe I just need to practice lol
