If something hits your car hard enough to move it, I'd be worried about the car itself, not just the tranny. Besides, if a car hits a parked car with only the E-Brake on, what guarantee do you have that the force of impact won't send your car flying in to another direction?

As far as stalling the car, that's just something that will become second nature to you. I think that has only happened to me once in the last 15 months.

That makes much more sense now that you worded it out like that. I will have to remember to park in gear now just to have that backup. I have to get used to that so when people move my car that I check the gear also, I stalled 2 for 2 scaring the crap out of myself sofar in the past few months.

i always leave my car in gear, i'm always paranoid that if i dont have it in gear the ebrake will fail and my car rolling. when i had my rsx type S i woke up in the morning and saw my car rolled to my neighbor's yard.

What that guarantees is more damage in the rear or front depending on where you get hit and it can still send your car in any direction depending on how hard your hit.. but then you could also get hit and fly into the wall infront of you.. ebrake is less likely to fail yet when in gear and ebrake your more likely to get crushed worse.

Thats really a pointless example bc it can go either way..your screwed however you get hit.
If you read my other posts I mentioned it was better to have a second brake than just to rely on one. That was my entire point.

No one has anything to lose by making it a habit to leave your car in gear. It should always be left in gear.

And like I said before, if someone hits a parked car hard enough to make it move, having the car in gear is not going to make a significant impact in making the situation any worse than it is (but atleast you have that second brake to rely on).

When automatics are left on P along with the e-brake, that's almost the same as what we do when we leave our cars in gear + handbrake.

i agree with Skaterbasist 100%, funny thing is when my mom taught me how to drive mt she told me to leave it in gear+ e-brake which i do but she never does, everytime she drives the G she just puts the e-brake lol

I've never heard of leaving the car in gear being a problem or hurting a car. As pointed out earlier a Saab 900 I drove years ago had to be left in gear or the key wouldn't come out.

Excellent point (which is obviously missed by others arguing against it)...
