Using the term cooler when rad coolant operates at 170-200F is confusing. In many ways the purpose is to heat ATF faster during cold start up so that AT allows overdrives and TC lockup earlier in warm up process.
Always a good idea to measusure ATF temperature and understand that a slipping TC [acceleration] creates the most heat.
From a ATF heat stress point of view the temperature going INTO the cooler is real time vs the inlet temperature after the heat has been removed ..............the peak tempearture can be 250-300F leaving TC and bet be cooled down to 175F in AT sump.
The ATF life was still reduced by the peak temperature.

I am using 3/8 line from the tranny hard line to my external cooler (Aftermarket rad so completely bypassed). I was leaking like a ****.
The hard line on my car has two sizes. It gets smaller towards the rad. It appears to be about 3/8 closer to the tranny and shrinks to about 5/16 towards the rad. For the time being, I shoved the 3/8 line higher onto the larger part of the hard line and used two fuel injection clamps. It's holding up for now, but a compression fitting is my next plan.

i been by passed about more than year no isuuse. it will be ok but 3/8 hose not sure i will not use then again i had my hose pop out thanks for it pops out my garage. check auto part store they have clamps it goodyear but made in germany it has self adjust but works good on this same like samco clamps but only $3 for pair.and trammy cooler i am not sure about btu i use 10000gwr mean small compact or car. when atf pass radiator cooler will be around 200f(water on radiator more than 215f all the time)when hot will be same tep like water in radiator after pass out side tranmmy cooler maybe aroung 180f .just add cooler do not by pass cooling system. you need add cooling not to bypass.donot use cheap or hardware inside cooler kit that's very low low junk stock spring calmps are better but find goos clamps nissan j matic very expansive and transmission will be more than 3k to installed.
