You should drop the pan and clean out any sludge etc. there are also two magnets at each corner and I am sure they will be full of crap. I dropped the rear end fluid and filled it up with Lucas syn, 75-90 and that plug was loaded with metal! I still want to find out about this not touching the pan thing.

Summit Racing normally stocks them and have excellent price on them.

New Trans Info

I contacted one shop and they said that the way to do trans work is done by reprogramming the trans. I like that idea, and again as always I will research this to the fullest extent of the law,, opps that's another site, seriously I am going to check on it and share.

Drain/Fill should get out 5.5-6 quarts. When you drain/fill make sure you pull the lines that go to the cooler inside the radiator. This will help you get out the extra 2 quarts that most people miss.

I never got out more than 4 qts, it seems like most people here are getting around that and not 5.5-6.

I would say you will get 3-4 qts out.

Thanks! I plan on getting a nice cooler so I will be getting it all out and then have a little more with the contents of the cooler. I have to take that splash pan and it's 27 screws, which I just had replaced, and I still have to put all the bolts back, they were rusty and I want to wire brush and re-tap etc.

Any opinions on doing a drain/fill using Matic-S if what's in there now is Matic-J?

Edit: Argh. Looking at my old records, it looks like my dealer used a BG synthetic product when I last had my ATF flushed/filled. Invoice lists "Universal Synth ATF-BG3124" on the parts list. I guess I will have to call them and see what they say.

Very surprised to see this, glad I looked up the invoice.

Well if that's the case guys I feel much better. I have a 2007 A/T VQ35DE and my manual said I would need 10-11 7/8 quarts. Im guessing this is for a complete ATF change. If it will be 5 quarts or less I will be doing it on my next days off along with my differential and oil change.

FLUSH is pretty pointless for AT fluid. AT fluid doesn't get as dirty as engine oil.

When I had an auto, and I had the AT fluid drain and refill, the Transmission fluid was still bright red after 120k miles.

So, just check the fluid. If it's still bright red, all you need is a drain and refill.

If it's starting to turn brown, then go with the flush. AT fluid already has cleaning agents in them. I still don't think a flush is necessary.

New Dexron III ATF fluid are good for 100k miles. Nissan uses Type J, not sure what the intervals are for that.

Not exactly sure why people are changing them every 15k miles. Does the owner manuals say so?

Nissan says 30k for CVT equipped cars, 60k for other. And the 370z doesn't need any maintenance.
