rumbling noise 6MT help!

hello,

just wondering. I've been searching the site and looking for a possible thread that could assist but couldn't find anything that describes what I'm hearing or going through mentally.....

I have a 2003 G35 Sedan 6MT and I just recently replaced the clutch (exedy stage 1) and the flywheel (Clutchmasters light weight). After doing so when changing the gear from a low RPM there is a fairly loud rumble and vibration which sounds like it is coming from the tranny. So I accelerate from 1st, at an RPM lower then 1500 and the rumbling noise and vibration begins, this happens during all gears and even worse in reverse. if I am at a higher RPM in 1st accelerating aver 1500RPM the car goes as normal and switching gears normally it works fine, just if I let the RPM's drop below 1500RPM is when you feel the rumble and vibration. In reverse I need to be higher then 2500RPM in order not to feel the rumble, but I dont want to burn out my clutch.

I've been to 3 mechanics: the first says it's the flywheel, b/c there is no damper on after market flywheels it will rumble.
second says the clutch has to "break in"
3rd says it is the gearbox and the whole tranny has to be replaced.

Please let me know if anyone else has had this same experience or know what the issue is?

I can't stand it and want to drive the car into a brick wall, my last resort is the dealership which I'm scheduled for tomorrow, but I know they are going to r*pe me....

any ideas?

yeah i just had a lightweight flywheel put on bc i needed a new clutch and i didnt want to buy an expensive oem dual mass. i have the same problem. the dealer says its normal but i think its ridiculous that the transmission would make so much noise. anyone else have any ideas?

What the OP describes I exp on one of the cars I test drove while searching to buy one. The seller told me it was also "normal" and the clutch needs to be "broken in". He actually installed the Exedy Stage 1 as well.

I don't buy the whole normal thing... go on Exedy's site and they have a PDF file on there that lists various problems and there possible causes. There can be a few for the clutch chatter you are experiencing... I think thats what you have based on what you described.

yea i dont believe it either, i have had a stage 4 race clutch for a 12 second car i had before and i had no problems.

soo i did some searching on my350z and apparently its what happens when you have a single stage flywheel. i dont see why going from a dual to single makes the noise, what about all of the evos civics subys etc other cars, that come with a single fly, they dont make the noise when you put a lighter one on..... go figure why nissan would make such a noisy tranny that needs the fly to absorb it.

Did they replace your throw-out bearing? That sounds like the throw-out bearing is going bad.

Very curious as to what they will say, have the same exact problem with mine. Have a z1 performance street clutch and z1 lightweight flywheel. People always think something is wrong with the car and I'm starting to believe them, it's driving me crazy! Anyone have more knowledgeable info on this matter?

It's normal my friend. The sooner you accept it the better. I'll bet you $10,000 a new tranny isn't going to fix it, and an extra $1000 that it actually gets worse! LOL

PS My 12lb flywheel sounds like a mack truck off the line. I starting to like the funny looks I get, especially when they end up in the rear view mirror haha.

I have a similar question to those above; my tranny makes a rattling sound when at idle, ive been told its the duel mass flywheel and its a common issue among all G MT's but i was wondering if anyone else has had the same issue. it mostly happens after it wars up and sometimes a first start up ( its like a clanking sound very annoying and concerning) any ideas???

^^^ I have that same problem. It's also causing my car to idle weird.

Every time is clanks, the idle sounds like it misses a little bit.
