New Gears?

Hello all. I was hoping that someone could explain (in non techie terms) what changing your gears means? I have a 05 G35x and was thinking about some upgrades. All I hear about is C.A.I and exhausts, and I get that, but what about these gears? I was also thinking about a computer flash that I hear will give me about a 10hp increase and better low end tourqe. How expensive will it be to get these gears and where do they go? Sorry to all the gear heads out there, but sometimes you scare me!!!!

First, search. Then search again. Go to the drivetrain section if you want info regarding gears. Why come post on sedan section? All of your question is just waste of time since they are all posted already. Instead of waiting for someone to answer, it's faster if you search.

Search is your friend. Why don't people realize this when they join a forum?

i love how they never look at the "LOOK HERE BEFORE STARTING A NEW THREAD" thread

They are talking about the ring gears in the differential.

Unsure if there are any front ring gears for an AWD model though. Basically someone told me it was $900 for them to upgrade the rear ring gears in their RWD sedan. If the AWD model does in fact have ring gears for the front diff, then you are looking at nearly $2K to change the gearing.

Not cost effective if you ask me.

It does offer a boost due to gear multiplication. Imagine a 10-speed bike and shifting to a lower gear sprocket. Makes it easier to accelerate, but you find you will be revving like crazy on the highway.

I havent heard of anyone changing their FD's (final drives) on the AWD model. Not saying it cant be done but its a more popular modification amongst RWD owners.

if the front is r200 based the ring and pinion gears should be the same as the rear, as far as lsd and such in the front it could be different due to spline sizes.

Gearing for the AWD is 3.5 in the rear and front differentials. I believe both are ring/pinion but I'm not sure if they are the same size.
