How bad is it to ride in manu-matic?

ok well i decided against going with a 6mt and went with the 5at instead. this is my second car that is automatic and the previous car was a2002 lexus is300 that i drove in manu-matic all the time before being totalled. i didn't have any problems with that car and just wanna make sure that i won't with the g. i prefer manu-matic cause the rpms don't bounce and the throttle response feels better. i don't drive in it all the time and car only has 30k miles but would like to ask to make sure im not just screwing up my tranny. its a 2004 5at so you don't have to ask what year

I know the 04's dont have rev-matching, I'd say its fine as long as you don't downshift into a redline or redline it too often (just my opinion), my 06 5at is sometimes driven with the manumatic mode and I've never had issues with it...

The best th8ing you can do for a 5AT is get one of my custom grounding kits to improve shifting and throttle response.

my 04 doesnt allow me to drop down and redline until I am in the correct RPM range....not sure if my 04 5AT is different or not but I also have the GTM VB Upgrade that is amazing!!!

here is a quick vid of shifting in Manu-matic...you can see how hard the shifts are!

this is another one in manu-matic mode and you can hear my shift immediately when I shift.

i will definately get back to you on that one. im about to spend the money to drop the g so i know imma do that first. but as to the first response i don't use it for the purpose to redline but i do like to be able to control where i shift or what gear its in especially when slowing down at a red light that suddenly turns green. when in drive the gearing is just bad when it goes green and i hate that. but i do let the car downshift itself except for when im on exit ramps ill downshift into fourth but never third or lower

in response the car would shift hard in the beginning while i was learning what i call the sweet spots to shift. it doesn't shift hard but what exactly is the mod you did to yours in the second video?

its a full VB Upgrade meaning it replaces the stock VB in the transmission....

Valbodies Make your car shift a lot faster and harder. It basically gives you the feeling of driving a manual. Gtm vb will hold over 430whp without any other tranny mods

yea i drive in MM all the time and havent thrown any codes or anything and been pretty harsh on it couple times. Its still good to me..the car has a computer, its not going to let you harm the car. for example..it will not let you shift into 2nd beyond 60 mph..its all good.

Damn I've always been a manual tranny guy but that 5at shift in the video above got me rethinking the whole thing

awesome thanks for all the info guys. ya ive been harsh on when driving the car hard but i never downshift so don't run into that problem. the car downshifts for me so i figured since it does it on its own i might as well not downshift and let the car do how it was made. and yes im seeing alot of advantages to the 5at because i have the choice to shift but now when i wanna hold my girls hand i can throw it in drive and not have to worry about shifting at all

you have to downshift, thats where all the fun is..cruising at 45 or 50 mph .. then down shift and floor it..youll get great throttle response. the car will take off faster in 2nd gear going 45 or 50 than it will in 3rd gear.

I just sold my 03 g35coupe. It was an automatic and i drove it in the manual mode basically all the time. I never had a transmission issue and i put 150,000 miles on the car. Just make sure your tranny fluid changed when it should be and you will be fine.
