My Automatic car :(
I know, i know J... for real though, i wasn't at all it impressed by it. i guess i just was expecting too much. don't get me wrong, i would love an HR Z. HR is def the way to go, i just don't think, for me it'd be worth dropping my sedan for one. it'd def be a nice extra ride though.
You have low miles on your sedan man just keep it. Theres a couple mods out there for the autos that once you install them it'll make u change your mind. How do i know? Well ive been in some of the member's sedans. Eventhough i have a 6mt, i would be happy if it woulda been an auto to. But 6mt ftw anyway
Your car has low miles, just keep it for now. I cant comment on the auto because i waited forever to find a 6MT Sedan with black leather. I think about selling my car every day though for a g37 =(
for REAL!!! LOL, i actually really want a new G37 sedan + Stillen SC
Unfortunately, owning a Z will entail a certain degree of contact with my350z.com, and that may cause you to shoot yourself in the head.... guess it's kinda a pro/con thing
When I started looking a G's, I had my heart set on a 6MT. Then I drove one and was a bit surprised. The gearbox was super notchy, the gates were resistant to quick upshifts, clutch take up was worse than my Maximas, and I could feel vibration through the pedals and shifter. Then I did some research and found out the clutch is pretty weak, the dual mass flywheel is not serviceable, and the overall reliability of the 6MT syncros was pretty dismal. I was disappointed. I drove a 5AT G and was pleasantly surprised. The car was so much more smooth to drive and didn't really feel any slower. After nearly 6 years of ownership, I'm happy with the 5AT 90% of the time. I know I'd be disappointed with the 6MT because of it's characteristics which were similiar to my Maxima's and after 4 years, the Maxima 5MT really got on my nerves in terms of refinement. The 6MT in the G felt far worse than the Maximas.
Last year I drove my friend's 08 G35 sedan 6MT (HR) and damn, the thing 6MT VIBRATES!!!!!!!! It must have something to do with the high rev nature of the HR because after 5000rpms, the 6MT is pretty lively in your hands and through the pedals. In a 350Z, I could tolerate it. In a refined car like the 2nd gen G? No way. It's totally out of character. Apparently the 6MT in the VQ37 cars have been improved quite a bit.
I find it weird I drive a 5spd acura for winter and an automatic G for summer.
But you know, in summer I just wanna relax lol
I love the 6spd in my Z though, feels so sharp and on point compared to the 1.6 EL. I learned to drive stick on sports cars so a notchy transmission was nothing new to me.
I'm sure if I had learned on econocars and cheaper cars the Z tranny would be much more foreign.
