-- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

This is a double post I made on My350Z.com

If you are interested in a Quaife LSD please head over to this THREAD.
Note: Be patient ... it appears the My350Z server is a bit schitzo lately

Haven't a clue what a Quaife LSD is or what's so special about it??? Read all about it HERE

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

Neither ... you want Quaife LSD

What you have right now is an 'open' differential. I have the 'viscous' limited slip differential, which is better than your open, but could still use a lot of improvements.

1-Billion dollars!

... hard to say at this point Josh. Your guess is as good as mine. The product is far from production at this point.

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

So what kind of timeline are we talkin about ?

Will it fit the VLSD carrier or only the open frame carrier?

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

bump!

thanks for talking with Quaife, I started the dialogue with them in Feb 04, I hope we finally get one, my luck they'll do the VLSD MT version first!

I have open diff 03 6MT G35 Sedan...

Didn't we say a diff designed for VLSD cars can be made to work with open diff cars with extra parts? will it apply for the Quaife?

those interested, here is the orignal post:

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

any update? i might be getting a kaaz as an interim solution, so therefore might have an open diff from a 03 6MT g35 sedan that I could let quaife borrow...

I wants me one!

Here's a good how stuff works article on diffs, open and limited slip. After reading this you will have a better understanding of why limited slips are much better than opens, and why Torsen and Clutch types are a lot better than Viscous types. All LSD's were NOT created equal.

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

Josh,
The main function of an LSD is to maximize power transfer down to the wheels with the most traction. An open differential (what you currently have), acutally does the opposite, that is applying power to the wheel w. the least traction. This is most apparent when surfrace traction is non favorable or under high performance track/autox condition.

Nismo, Kazz and Cusco already make such a beast ... but their's a clutch type which has cumbersome noise associated for street use. The Quaife unit is a gear type, which has non of the noise issues.

Re: -- Quaife LSD -- ... want one?

how much are we looking at Clint? Can I assume near the 300Z price of $1495?

sounds like a good SOLID mod for weekend tracking.

thanks for the heads up, I am VERY interested tho my paychecks may dictate that I wait a bit first

been keeping in touch with Quiafe about every month or so, here is a response back from today:

"We have been busy sorting out all the differences between the different differentials. It appears that there is a automatic group of differentials and a manual group of differentials. There is a different offset for the AT's and the MT's. It looks like we are going to do units to replace the MT differential as a straight replacement. The AT guys, will have to change the ring and pinion to suit. If you have information opposing, please let me know."

Glad it's just a drop in for us MT guys as was expected. Question now is when, how many, and how much?
