I do believe that when it comes to an every day driver (car), the open rear end is more stable in the snow and rain (unless you turn in the non spinning wheel). I have had many Mustangs over my younger days, and although traction is compromised in the open diff, the Posi was ready to drift constantly in either direction, and even while moving straight for that matter, due to torque. Who knows as the electronics should solve those problems in the protected mode.

I know that this is an old thread, but....

I have an 06 base coupe as "base" as they come! (Doesn't even have a sunroof) The rear will drift either way, make a pair of black marks, and wear rear tires perfectly evenly. Oddly enough, when on jack stands, clearly, the diff acts as open. Not sure how Nissan has accomplished this feat.

i have a 2003 5AT sedan on coils and i can slide the back end around and leave 2 tire marks if i really push it at the top of 2nd. would buying a diff off of a 2005-2006 g coupe help me? i feel satisfied with the mods ive done to the suspension and i really want to upgrade the drivetrain as much as possible because of the automatic transmission. is a diff off a 350z going to fit? and can i do it myself?

All of our cars now have open differentials. The discs used to lock the 'other' axle in a vlsd wear out after about 60k miles. So there ya go.

wow i feel........cheated somehow. i am amazed that the mechanics of this technology wear away and transform themsleves (from LSD to open) instead of being rendered unusable

It's odd how some folk think that just because a topic is from the past, it's gone stale. Like it's beyond its "use before date"

Very strange that some feel that a topic like the DIFFERENTIAL should not be resurrected.

They can take my VLSD, but they will never take my pride.
