Well I have read many threads about 3rd gear grind and syncros being bad, but I think my issue is a little bit different and wanted to see what you guys thought.

When driving only and shifting into 3rd gear, I sometimes, maybe 20% of the time get a single "TICK" that I can feel on the shifter as I go into 3rd gear. It doesn't prevent me from going into gear, or make a GRIND feeling, its more of a single "TICK" that you can definitely feel on your hand as you go into 3rd gear. 80% of the time it shifts smoothly into gear, but about 20% like stated above I feel that knock on the shifter.

Any ideas what this could possibly be? I have an 05 G35 6MT @ 48K miles. Probably going to change out the tranny fluid and see if that helps at all. I was unable to find any threads with people who have a single knock rather than most who have an actual GRIND. Thanks guys!

 

Drove around some more today and its definitely not a quick "ZZZZ" grind feeling. Its a single "KNOCK" that I can feel on my hand when shifting into 3rd probably 15% of the time. However, that gear is starting to feel pretty knotchy as well even without the knock. Any suggestions? Gonna do a tranny drain/fill hopefully this weekend.

 

could possibly be time for a fluid change... especially if you area somwhere it gets cold.

 

It's normal. Our tranny is right under the shifter so it can get notchy. I got used to it and liked it after awhile.

EDIT: but changing your fluid won't hurt
