I don't know jack about drivetrain so I was hoping for some advice. The car is an 2004 6mt with just under 50k miles (about 49500). The car was bought in Oct 2004 so it should still be covered under the 7 year powertrain warranty.

The gear only grinds when I shift into 5th fast, if I do it gently there isn't any grinding (however, when I shift fast into all the other gears it doesn't grind). Is there a transmission issue with my car? Should I take it to the dealer while it's still under warranty? Thanks for all help.

 

actually, after looking further, it appears the warranty is only for 6 years (despite me reading on here that it was 7 years). looks like the warranty is over.
