Final drive gear.

I'm interested in getting this final drive, for my 5at. Can anyone give me some background on how involved the installation is? Or any pitfalls for using it?

I can't speak to the installation aspects, but the down-side includes: The lower gearing will make your engine run faster at any given MPH, so your gas mileage will suffer. At highway speeds, the faster running engine may be noisier than you bargained for, too. As the product description mentions, you will gain faster acceleration at the expense of top-end speed. Personally, I don't mind losing top-end speed, but lower gas mileage would be intolerable. My gas mileage is bad enough with the stock gearing! Also, I seem to recall there was a concern about the engine bouncing off of the rev-limiter under hard acceleration all the time. It seems that, with the lower gears, the TCM does not shift fast enough to prevent it. That's not good.

I'll pass...

You pretty much said it all, top end isnt good on an AT G either IMO, but im a nut for speed once again, even modded it still isnt that fast, i cant afford to lose any top end LOL.. Faster acceleration is nice, but i got that from my pullies and the bouncing off the rev limiter also, great mod! This i dunno about

The installation would be a bit involved as you would need to drop your differential pumpkin and replace the stock ring and pinion gear with the new 3.9 gears. Not extremely hard but something most average diy'ers would think twice about. Most people would just take it to a shop to have it done. Definitely a job that takes a few hours or more.

This might be a little off topic, so please excuse my musing. I'm kind of curious to know what the performance and gas mileage differences would be in a 6MT by going the other way and swapping the rear end out with an AT model. I wonder if it would even be worth it?
