I just got an 03 g sedan, thing is clean, only one owner before. the one thing i have noticed, WHENEVER I START THE CAR AFTER ITS BEEN SITTING FOR A WHILE, as soon as it makes its first shift from 1st to 2nd, it make like a "spring" sounds? weird, i have no idea what that could be... any suggestions???? i wanna try to take care of this before it become a major problem later on

Mine does the same thing. 2005 sedan 6mt sport. I think it might be the abs system. I've had other cars (audi, MB) that sent a pulse to the brakes when the car attained 20mph (or so). Don't know why. It just did. My infiniti makes a sound like a spring going boyoyoying. It seems to come from the steering column or firewall area. It happens every time, and only once - about the point where I shift out of 1st gear.

It's the ABS system doing a self test. It usually happens around 5-10 mph.

 

So should I not be worried? Is that sound common?

 

The ABS does a self test like Metalp3n said. It's normal, I was worried too when I first noticed the sound, again it's normal.
