Dealer Pricing on Diff Oil and Tranny Oil Change

Hey guys...

Does 278 + tax sound about right for a diff oil change and tranny fluid change at the dealership? The rep. wasnt sure about the price and had to check.. Taking the car in on the 14th, just wanted to know what others have paid for the same service. He said that the 278 price included labor, fluid, etc..

Thanks in advance for all input..

Let me tell you, I got r*ped today at the dealer for a transmission flush and rear diff flush. It cost me $256 for everything, but they almost charged me $356 until I complained. Next time I have it done, it will cost me $356 since they cut me a deal this time. What a ripoff. $278 is not too bad comparatively speaking, but it shouldn't cost that much no matter how you cut it.

Buy it [plus tools /lift] and change it yourself, pay to dispose of 12-16 quarts.........the new synthetic special ATF is expensive. We charge $230+ $60= $290 but our labor rate is only $70/hour so $356 sounds about right for a dealer.

Just part of the $2,200-3,000 per year [prorated and mileage factors] it cost to keep up to new standards [brakes, tires, etc].

What is the mileage number for the change? 15,000? 20,000?

I just re-read my post. I forgot to mention that I only complained because they quoted me a different price ($235) over the phone. I have a lift and tools, any idea how much the machine costs? Can you use a manual gear fluid pump?

cars in the shop as we speak.. they now gave me the printout and the estimate states 185.49..

they are changing the diff oil and tranny oil, also the service rep recommended a synthetic tranny oil (R+G or something like that) said its a lot better but also mentioned that the tranny might sound a bit louder because of the oil being synthetic.. anyone heard of this oil and have experience with it..? q45tech, maybe you could help us out here????

thanks

$278? Isn't the total amount of fluid you need less then $20? That's a lot of labor for something that shouldn't take them no more then a hour max.

All i have to say guys is WOW!!! Got the car back on saturday with the tranny and diff fluid replaced and the tranny shifts like a dream. Barely any notchiness and very smooth! It only cost 178 to replace both too!!! If your tranny feels notchy or wont shift into gear as smooth I defintely recommend this. Make sure you go with the synthetic too (doesnt sound any louder)..

I did both of the fluid flushes last weekend and it was very easy. The hardest part is getting the car off the ground if your using jack stands. I used a 50/50 combination of Redline MTL/MT-90 for the manual transmission and 75w90 geal oil for the rear differential. Total cost: $50 for the Redline synthetic fluids. Next time I will try to make up a DIY since I have access to lift and could take detailed pics.

How did you flush it? Do you have the machine that pumps the fluid through the tranny, or did you just drain and fill. The latter of the two is much less effective than flushing the tranny. I am wondering if a manual pump could be used.
