I think as long as it is GL-4 or GL-5 oil you should be ok. I'm sure someone with more knowledge will chime in shortly.

Believe it or not Chevron is a quality company, if you can't afford AMOSIL or Red Line it will do fine....Gary

Sorry to bump an old thread. I am having a hard time finding anything GL-4 on store shelves but found some valvoline that says it meets the requirements for GL-4 and GL-5. Is this ok to use in the transmission?

No.

Use Nissan MTF or Redline MT85. Typically have to order it, never seem to find it in stores.

Yeah you've got to order the transmission fluid, but the rear diff fluid you can find in any auto parts stores (Valvoline or Lucas 80w90 is what I always see)

No. gL-5 fluids can be corrosive to yellow metals (bronze, copper, etc) and should not be used in transmissions spec'ed to gL-4.

However, in rear axle applications, there are no yellow metals, so gL-5 fluids are acceptable.

I used Mobil 1 75w-90 in my front and rear axles.

This much I knew but how is it they can say right on the bottle that it meets requirements for GL-4 if it will eat up the components?
