6mt shifter has play/turns
Hello,
I just purchased my first manual car (04 g35 sedan) and realized that the shifter itself has a lot of play and oddly can be turned in either direction. At first i thought it was the shift **** itself that was loose, but the whole shift shaft turns as well. Is this just a shifter shaft that is defective or is it something else?
My car is currently at the dealership for a diagnostics and they quoted me $600 to replace which is expected since it's a dealership. They said it is the shifter assembly but is that the shift shaft that is defective?
I'm also having a hard time finding the OEM nissan/infiniti shift shaft and cup or whatever else it may come with part number. Does the 350z shift shaft/cup fit directly into the g35 and are they the same parts?
Thanks

After some thinking, is it possibly the transmission linkage is damaged instead? I thought the shift shaft was just a metal rod, so if this is true wouldn't it be something else wrong if the shift shaft can turn?
