Clutch slipping or....?

I was checking out a 2005 coupe this weekend, 6MT and trying to verify if this person had a clutch that was slipping but I've never seen one behave quite like this, here's what it's doing.

5th or 6th gear, 2500 rpms, punch the throttle and the car pulls hard as normal but the rpms jump about 300 rpm for just a second then drop back down to normal as it acellerates through the gear. Repeatable every single time.

Normally when I see a slipping clutch the rpms rise and hang and don't drop back down, I dont know if the clutch is just BARELY starting to slip and it quickly builds up heat and friction and grabs again or if the clutch isn't worn and maybe there is just so.ething wonky with the tach.

Anyone else experienced a momentary jump in rpm that immediately falls back when standing on the throttle in a high gear?

Here's a little 5 second video, I mashed the throttle and didn't let up, you see the rpms rise then quickly fall while under WOT. I suspect it's VERY early signs of clutch failure but I've never seen this exact situation before, typically the rpms rise and.you don't feel the vehicle pulling. I definitely felt the car pulling when I hit the throttle though.

In 5th gear it jumps and falls 200-300 rpm, that was a 6th gear pull and didn't move much but it's still there.

Any thoughts?

I wish the vid was a touch longer but like you, I'm stumped. It's been 35 years since I had a manual transmission long enough for the clutch to wear out but I know I never had one do that. Sub'd for an answer.

I'll record a longer clip when the guy comes back this weekend, I'll get a 5th gear pull so it's a little more pronounced.

Strange. Could there just be a part of the clutch that's glazed? In my other car, it has this horrible first gear and reverse chatter, and the forum figured out it's from glazed over spots on the clutch (im no clutch expert; just repeating what they said). Anyway, seems to make sense that if there were "spots" that were bad, could it have "situational slippage"? Again, not a clutch expert, I'm more interested subbing for solution.

I suspect it is, strange thing is when the guy brought the car back 2 weeks later and I went to record the video again I couldn't get it to do it... AT ALL, EVEN UPHILL...

I suspect he's on the rivets but during those two weeks he wore the faces down a tad so there's less metal surface area creating heat and the clutch friction plate is grabbing a bit more.
