Hey everyone,
im looking to manual swap my early style ECU sedan. As far as I understand, this is difficult/impossible because the early type ECU causes problems along the way when swapping trans. I posted this in the MT swap DIY thread but figure it will get more attention here...

My questions are:
1. what is the reason that the early style ecu doesn’t allow for a MT swap? A lot of people supposedly retain the AT harness and ECU and have a successful swap. Why is the early ecu any different? According do this YouTube video ( ), it looks like VDC must be disabled for the car to not go into limp mode and to function properly, but I have not read anywhere on this thread of anyone else doing this as a workaround on the early ecu...
2. assuming that I would have to swap the engine harness and ecu to 04.5+ , is it possible to retain the early style interior harness? I know that the early sedans have different connectors so would the early interior harness be able to connect to a new ECU? I’m not sure exactly which connectors are different between the old and new style harnesses. I’m guessing that going through the dash to replace the interior harness would be a totally pain and I’d like to avoid that if possible.

The early-03 ECU was borrowed from the Maxima's as I understand, and apparently they are harder to 'hack' into to reflash/tune. Also, the early-03 sedans weren't yet available with the 6MT from the factory, so that only adds to the challenge.
I think the 04/03.5 harness is a little different vs 04.5 and up. For 2004.5, they made the cars ULEV compliant, and thus they changed to factory wide-band O2/AFR sensors (6 wire harness vs 4 wire), plus a few other changes (Shifter handle + relocated TCM + manual mode functions differently) for 5at cars.

 

Ok so i recently bought a 2004 nissan 350z, my dream car and ive worked my *** off to save up money, and drove 7 hours to buy one that looked like a really good deal. Now the transmission is going out, so i went on marketplace and found a guy selling a "2004 nissan 350z/g35 transmission" i bought it, and dropped my transmission only to realize the new tranny that came off the g35 has 3 green connectors and my old transmission only has one. Help me please.
