So my release bearing went out yesterday. So I dropped the tranny, removed the wire clip between the fork and the release bearing, grab the bearing and try to remove it and it will only slide up the shaft about a inch or so then stop. I've tried everything I can think of to get it to slide off. I'm going to assume it's the original release bearing.
Any idea what I can do to get it to come off so I can get the new bearing installed and back in.
Use a wire brush to clean all the splines thoroughly, then add some kind of grease, preferably moly since it needs to be greased again on reassembly. You might need to slide hammer it off but you should be able to just keep working it back and forth on the shaft and occasionally using that wire brush again to eventually get the bearing off.
Probably just clutch material built up on the input shaft or splines.
Going out now to see what I can do. I'm sure it's a lot of build up. Wife burnt the clutch disc out about 2 years ago and I should have just replaced it then. Bearing literally fell aparts when I slide the transmission back.
So after looking at the end of the shaft I noticed that there was a small lip where the sleeve was hitting. I took a file and filed the end of the shaft and the bearing came off. I want to thank u all for your assistance. She is back up and running.
