Metal shavings In oil
Metal shavings In oil
Just wondering if there’s any vq masters that could point me in the right direction of where this metal is coming from, it’s a brass ish coppery looking color, right now I have valve covers and timing cover pulled off and so far I can’t find any damage, haven’t checked the valves or piston heads but engine rotated by hand fine, is this looking like a engine rebuild to you guys?
Cut open the filter to see how much metal is actually trapped in it, if there's glitter in the filter (or in the oil you drained out) then it's time to start pulling bearing caps.
If there's no oil in the filter and there wasn't any suspended in the oil you drained out then wipe out the pan really well and reinstall it, then pull it again next oil change and see if it's still making glitter. You should check oil pressure too.
I've seen situations before where someone ran low on oil, started to eat a bearing and glittered up the oil, caught it quick enough, changed oil and cleaned out the pan, oil pressure was still decent, like 20psi idle and 50psi at rpm, and the motor continued to run for years. Those big chunks don't inspire much confidence though.
