Shifter Q?

I've been searching around for the last couple of hours, and can't seem to find the information I needed. My friend is planning on buying an 05 350z. I sat in it, and the shifter feel was a lot shorter, and stiffer. It felt all around just more precise to me. I was wondering if anyone has swapped a 350z shifter into a G35. I assume it would, since they have the same transmission, but I just wanted to make sure. Thanks in advanced for any information. I'm also open to a quality aftermarket solution, if there is any out there. Thanks again.

iNi

The Z and G have the same transmission and shifter. I'm not sure why the Z's felt shorter, but it shouldn't have been unless the dealer did something to the model you were sitting in.

Short throw

I think G and Z '05's have a shorter throw shifter, compared to earlier models

I thought it was the same shifter assembly also, or atleast assumed, until I sat in one yesterday. Everything seemed to be more sport oriented, including the clutch pedal. I liked the stiffer feel. BTW: it was an '05 35th anniv. model.

They are identical for 04 and earlier model Gs and Zs. I'm not aware of shortened throw for the '05 and I didn't feel that when I test drove the '05 35th Anny Z either. The '05 tranny does have a few tweaks that makes it feel slightly different. Nissan recons they reduced the shifting effort and such. Perhaps this is what you felt.

Have you tried changing you shift ****? That has a dramatic impact on the 'feel'. I'm running a single piece Stainless Steel unit that I made. It is also counter-sunk further to reduce the throw slightly. The 'feel' is that the shifts are more precise.

Heh heh .. ya dirty little Believe me ... there's one I've made that has been often mistaken for some erotic toy!

This one's made of 304 Stainless-Steel ... good stuff.

Ok ... back to the orginal topic of the thread owner!

Thats a nice piece. Maybe I'll try that. I swear the throw, and all around stiffness felt different in the Z, but maybe I'm imagining things. Are there any quality aftermarket units available yet?

B&M, Nismo (although developed and produced by someone else), & Rogue are the shifters out now.

Run a search on those and you should get a bunch of information on them.

Nice touch on the relocated VDC. They should have put it there to begin with. The shifter looks great but let that sit out in the sun for a while in the summer or in the winter here in Chicago with out any gloves, OUCH !!!

I read a view threads on B&M and it seems like there's a couple tweeks with them, and undue vibration. I'll check out rogue and nismo. Thanks.

Thanks. The pieces' made of 304 stainless steel, so it won't burn like Aluminum. In most cases ... it's simply warm to the touch
