manumatic shift

i have an 03 coupe automatic...when driving in manual mode when slowing down prior to coming to a stop, if i downshift to 2nd there is an abrupt jerk when the gear automatically goes into 1st gear at the stop...there is no problem if i am in 3rd prior to the stop, only when in 2nd.
does anyone else experience this? and why is this happening?....is there a fix for this?

I think that the transmission is programmed to go from third to first when decellerating. It seems to skip second altogether when you let it downshift automatically.

doesn't happem in my '05, but I am told they improved the tranny in the '05 - don't know if that is true or not.

Mine only goes to first if I get below 10mph or stop, unless I put into 1st.
