Cams or Clutch and Flywheel?

Are the JWT cams carb legal? will they pass smog? Because I can either do JWT clutch and flywheel or JWT s1 cams. Any input would be great or how else to spend $2,000 on a 6mt. So far I have the Crawford Plenum, Pop Charger and Stillen Sways. Thanks !

Cams are a good addition but you will need to tune it well. I just don't know what it takes to tune the cams to get maximum gain. Might get more expensive than 2k with the tuning involve.

I heard the JWT cams aren't that streetable. They will often cause the car to stall if not tuned properly. If you have more questions, contact Ducatiguy as he has a set of JWT cams for sale (I think NIB too). He went with the nismo cams instead for more street driveability. I think cams are a very expensive way to get a few ponies out of the car. The clutch should only cost you about $1,400 max installed! That leaves $600 you can save and put towards something else!

I have the JWT clutch/flywheel and the combo is great. Slightly noisier at idle and under 1500rpm's but revs a little quicker. No hp gains on the dyno. The JWT cams are the best bang for the buck of the cams out there with similar cam profiles. The only exception would be the Tomei 268's, but they require new lifter buckets and a ton of time and work to get fitting right for the perfect clearances. With the 03 cars the JWT's work perfect if you have the idle bumped to 850-900 rpm's. On the 04 and 05's there is an idle correction kit available from JWT to correct the lower idle, for a nominal cost.

no horse power gains on the dyno? i'm confused what does that mean? like it revs quicker but its the same as keepin it stock in sense of gettin down the 1/4 mile quicker?

what he said was no horse power gains for the clutch/flywheel combo, the lightened flywheel is more for losing rotational mass to make the engine more responsive

Clutch definately. I have done cams and they are not worth the cost/hp ratio in my experience.

The flywheel/clutch combo won't "gain" you any Hp, but instead frees up hp. Typical drivetrain loss for the 6mt is 18%, so I wouldn't be suprised if gain would show up on the dyno considering the stock clutch and flywheel weigh about 50 lbs together and the JWT flywheel alone is 14 lbs. We're talking rotational mass, so it should have more profound effect. You'll still make 280 hp, but lose 16% instead of 18%.
