Horsepower To Wheels
Horsepower To Wheels
People keep asking me what the horsepower is to the wheels of my 06 G35 coupe, and I'm not sure what to tell them. I know the engines 298, but I was hoping one of you would know so I can shut them up. Thanks
Actually the horsepower to the tire road surface interface is the highest loss point. Tires are in fact the highest individual single loss component. Next is the differential.
Gets to me people use the term: "wheel".

I just put my car on a DYNAJET machine on Friday 5/19, and performance-wise, I have added some Stillen catback pipes, grounding kit, and cold air intake.
Maximum hp was 225.08 at 6200 RPM w/ max torque at 214.26.
As far as the speed test, it went up to 165 mph before the speed limiter on the G set in and pulled it back. It was pretty amazing to see those wheels spinning that fast. The guy testing my G was pretty impressed with the mere smoothness of the car. No vibrations at the top speed and everything was tight.
I have a 2004 Black Coupe. Thinking about the vortech supercharger, but I just can't get myself to lay down $5K to buy it and get it installed.

my last dynojet was 248.61 Hp, 229.96 TQ (VDC slip light was on when I got in the car, so I guess the wheels where spinning on the roller - might have reached the 250 mark I was hopping for if the car had better traction)... last dynapack 271 HP, 241 TQ... '04.5 AT sedan Stillen CAI, Z-Tube (insulated), Stillen Exhaust, 1/2" Iso Therm spacer.
I have no idea what it was stock, so these numbers probably won't help the original poster.

But you confuse people because they think the wheel some how functions other than to support the tire.
Hopefully you don't throw away wheels when you have a flat, but separate the tire from the wheel then reassemble.
Not so obvious when you use dynos that bolt on to the hubs to actually measure the losses before the wheel, tire, and road interface

What is everyones thought(s) on chassis dyno on the road using pc software. I have limited experience with dynos but a comon recurring theme is that the data collected is not as accurate as it could be becasue friction from the tire and drum cannot be calculated. So rather that using a drum you actually have the car on the road being dynoed using the cars own sensor data.

Yep been to track but there aren't any around here near sea level... just LACR which is 2700 ft above sea level... the only time I went there it was 90+ degrees best ET was 15.00 = 14.55 at sea level. Considering the temp and fact that the track is very slightly uphill it wasn't too bad. We have an 1/8 mile track about 700 ft above sea level or so... I can't remember what I ran there.
Fontana has a track but it’s closed right now… much closer to sea level than LACR – when it opens I will run there hopefully in cooler weather and get times worth talking about.
