DIY coolant bypass mod

Well after several attempts to sell these things I realized it would probably be better for me to share the information rather than trying to sell and ship these things. I will only fab for local people as to be able to do the install myself. Burping of the coolant system is not an easy task. I really dont want to be responsible for someone messing up thier own car across the country. Enclosed are several pics with narations along the way. Any questions feel free to pm me. mike

full kit

driver side flange to block

driver side pipe bottom

passenger side pipe top

passenger side heater core nipple

rear cast pipe plugged

Now for the pressure testing set up.
heater core nipple hose plug

passenger side front (to radiator) plug

driver side blank flanged off

driver side hose w air fitting

driver side ready for pressure check

cast manifold w/ convertion for air (through temp bung)

cast manifold blank flanged off

rear and passenger side ready for pressure check


guage setup w/ valve

seems like a bit much for what seems like minimal gains.

anybody have any temperature #'s logged before and after this kind of modification?

looks fancy though. looks like something off my furnace...

great work man, what exactly is this by-passing? looks like the intake manifold lines and... something else.

It gets rid of the factory coolant tube that runs across the front timing cover along with all of the smaller heating hoses to the TB and factory sandwich plate.

hmmm thought you needed the one that goes in front of the timing cover...

nvm, just did some research guess you don't need it.

I think some people would have no problem installing it themselves. How much do you want for it? DM2 also sells one for $350 or so.

The install is not super complicated but It is more difficult on auto trans cars to get the rear most pipe off the heads... Also bleeding the coolant system in these cars can be quite the challenge. Mike and I have got pretty efficient in bleeding them.

Andrei not sure when you say hoe much do you want for it... This is the same setup as the DM2.

I'm surprised nobody showed interest especially everyone who is FI. It's worth getting rid of the clutter let alone 10 degrees. At least the motor wont feel heat soaked like it does every day this summer.

btw are those pipes powder coated or just painted... do they get hot enough to boil paint?
