Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

I understand the benefits of using synthetic in the engine. What are the benefits in the tranny and diff. ? I may switch when the time comes.

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

that is a great write up. Notice any difference in driving after the fluid changes?

NismoV35:

Saw where you changed out your tranny fluid with synthetic. Assume you have a 6MT? (your signature line doesn't say).

What synthetic did you use? How long has it been in, and did you notice any difference in the shifting action of the tranny? I'm considering changing mine out at 7500 miles to Redline Synthetic, as I've had good success with this in the past, speeding up "slow" synchros and getting rid of the "notchy" feel, which my 6MT seems to have in spades.

Did you change your clutch out of necessity (worn out), or for better performance? What effect has the Nismo clutch had? Did you have a factory viscuous LSD, and if so, have you swapped it out?

Don't mean to hijack this excellent DIY thread, PM me back if you want - it's just that guys like you, who have gone before some of the rest of us, can prevent us from "reinventing" the wheel.

Thanks.

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

Do NOT use redline synthetic for your tranny. Many Z owners have had their warranty voided because of this. The only accepted transmission oil accepted are Nissan, Amsoil, and I believe Castrol Transmax. Consult with your local service department first.

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

Thanks for the response, afrOpuff.

I wonder how they can exclude any manual transmission fluid that meets API GL-4 74w-85w or 75w-90w specs ??

Not saying they aren't voiding warranties, just wondering how?
Anybody have any insights or personal experiences to relate ??

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

Neffster, you are correct. I should have been more specific and say 25 ft-lbs. I guess I was unconciously being lazy and assume everyone would know torque is measured in ft-lbs. Thanks for the catch.

Ah snaps, I can't edit my posts because time has expired on editing. Can a mod change the references of 25 lbs to 25 ft-lbs in the DIY steps? Thanks.

Yeah, the Redline MT-90 clearly meets the specifications put forth in the Service Manual and Owners Manual. I don't see how Infiniti can clearly void warranties on that. If it was Redline MTL then yes, I can see that happening since MTL is 70W-80 and not under spec. But MT-90 should be just fine.

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

dbarnes,
yes i do have the 6MT. I don't know which synthetic was used. I had the work done by Blast racing service they are one of the top 5 tuners from Japan. E-mail address: blastracing@sbcglobal.net I've had the Clutch in since Friday, Yes It Defitenly Shifts better MUCH smoother. Less notchy. I changed out the Clutch because the Stock Clutch could not handel the repeated Abuse from running a 100 shot of NOS. The stock clutch was pretty badly Glazed and the Flywheel was warped and Glazed Real Bad on 3 spots. The Nismo is rated for 400 BHP so it should handel my application just fine. Pedal Pressure is More Stiff, Takes more effort to push down, Springs back much faster and easier though. However It's Much more drivable than using the 4 Puck racing clutch from ACT. My friend is using the Nismo also on his 6MT sedan he also is using a Lightened flywheel. The only Mod on his car is Z tube with JW popcharger. He aslo is happy with his setup.......... Good Luck with your mods

Re: DIY: Manual Tranny and Diff Fluid Change

No prob. Real easy job, almost easier than changing the engine oil.
