There's a white paper on the net (written by Amsoil) comparing different gear oils. Amsoil proved to be "the best"...or at least it performed better in the standardized test conducted. Again, Amsoil wrote it so take it for what it's worth. I chose it because I've heard numerous good things about it. Something a friend pointed out to me after I did my change, buy some el-cheapo fluid and flush your differential out with it first.

BTW, drove the car this morning and this afternoon, can't complain about anything regarding the differential flush. As soon as I get my exhaust in I'm going to change the transmission fluid while I'm down there.

No they are not the same. The specs should be in your manual.

You can get away with it as they are not that different. But they are technically different and they should know better.

Just to let everyone know if you have an air compressor there is a much easier, faster and less messy way of filling your transmission and diff oil. I used this method a few days ago and its much better then using any kind of pump.

I found out about this method from this site.

http://www.ttzd.com/tech/fluidchangetech.html

Read and follow the directions under 7.

I cant stress enough how much nicer this method is!

no? well I haven't done mine yet but the factory service manual seems to think there are two gaskets. I've got two on standby just in case.

lol in fact if you don't think it has a gasket then you shouldn't really even consider changing the fluid yurself. haha what kinda tranny plug doesn't have a gasket/crush washer?

it's a copper crush washer. Many, including me, have reused theirs with no issues.

or aluminum. I had to re-use mine too cuz nobody had that size and it probably will be fine but its good practice to replace them and I wish I would have been able to

Well I thought before reading this that someone over the past five years would have mentioned BG Syncro Shift II it is all the rage in the other forum I belong to and I had just replaced the trans-axle (6MT) fluid with this fluid. I had the royal Purple synthetic fluid in it. and it has made all the difference in the world. very very nice shifts solid and no clunk any more and it seems to have reduced the drag coefficient of the car it seems to just coast and coast when taken out of gear. So I am ordering this fluid for the G today. for both the trans and the diff. http://www.fredbeansparts.com/servle...o-Shift/Detail

Thanks to "Drizcol" that seems like a great way to get the oil out of those bottles.

and to the rest of you guys about the "gaskets" on the plugs they are metal gaskets made from a soft metal (either aluminum or copper or a combination of the two metals) it is not necessary to replace at this interval you should inspect the gasket and replace if cracking or severe gouging is in the faces of the gaskets. otherwise they should seal up after being re-torqued, be sure to clean the gaskets and sealing surfaces before re installation to prevent damage to the gaskets.

except that the point of the soft metal in a crush washer is to compress when torqued down thereby creating a seal which is why they're only good for one use. still, probably wouldn't be an issue but as cheap as they are it's well worth it.
