Break in...........

I don't believe in the "break in" period! Drive your
car normal but not in excess. I drove mine home
from the dealership at night going 70mph for about
30miles. Changed oil and filter (mobil 1) at 1000
miles and never looked back....I don't use oil between
changes and my G runs great. This is not '50 Ford
technology, it's Nissan '06 high tec!

You did good. The key is to avoid "sustained" high load/RPM operation during the first 1000 miles. The engine could and should be allowed to experience full load/RPM early and often. Just allow a 5-10 minute rest/cooldown by driving normally between WOT runs. This will let the hotspots dissipate and not permanently change tolerances there. Change your oil/filter now to a good synthetic and you will have a happy motor.

break in is a physical process. why are you trying to reset the ecu?

Yeah, don't sweat it. I think break-in procedures were more important in the past but not so much today because of precise machinework. It doesn't hurt to baby the car a bit in the beginning but there are those that believe you should run it hard from the start. The only consistent agreement is avoid cruising at the same rpm for long distances.

I have heard two schools of "break-in" thought:

1) Drive normally, but don't go over 4k. Stay away from long periods of continous RPM (aka highways)

2) Run the p!ss out of it. This will help the rings seat more quickly. Someone had done this on a dyno and said they were making 5-10hp more than another car that was broke in by method 1. It was on cz28.com I think, can't remember.

As long as you avoided steady speed and real hard abuse, you'll be fine.

Question 300 miles from dealership to home

Well ya'll. I have a problem.

I will be picking up my car from the dealership next month and I have to drive it about 300 miles on the highway to get it home.

If running at a constant RPM for too long is not a good idea, what can I do?

Kind of seems stupid to ship it when I can do the drive in 4 hours. Should I just stop often at the rest area and drive it in like 8 hours instead?

Just vary the speed up & down...don't stay at a fixed speed.
& don't use cruise control
